The unconsciousness could not have lasted long, but when I came to senses again, I was dizzy and I could only see my surroundings blurred through the black but strangely transparent spots dancing in front of my eyes. Six guys with BMX masks and weapons in their hands, two supporting me and dragging my spineless body towards a little blonde woman standing and waiting on the gently ascending ramp under the canopy.

A rifle was lying at her feet and a corpse hung halfway down from the canopy itself. Up there, a few meters back, were probably more. I tried to turn my head, I wanted to see what had happened to Wanda and Mariam, but I could only catch a glimpse of my left warden before he painfully reinforced his grip around my upper arm as he felt my movement. When we arrived in front of the woman, I could see that she was approximately close to her sixties. Her face had clear contours and the blue eyes looked at me in a strangely distanced way from top to bottom.

“Is he hurt?”

“No, just dazed by the shock grenades. Maybe the eardrums burst, but he doesn’t really need them,” it sounded from the warden on the right side.

“No, he doesn’t. And the others?”

“The woman fought back and got a blow to her head. The girl’s still unconscious.”

“So none of them are seriously wounded? Excellent. Put them in the beds and plug them in. Tie them up until the injections work properly. Bad enough the last one could get away.”

“Yes, doctor.”

They dragged me further up the approximately eight meter long, flat wheelchair ramp that ran under the canopy. Then we turned right. There once had been probably glass sliding doors here, but in the meantime the inhabitants of the nephro had built a solid looking board wall. A few meters behind was a second wall. The openings were offset and so narrow that only a single person could fit through them at a time, so my guards had to loosen their handles to push me through. This would have been basically the perfect moment to break free, but I was still too dazed and disoriented, and now I noticed that my ears were actually ringing and rushing. I was hoping that guy wasn’t right about my eardrums.

Inside, in the foyer in which we were located now, there were two doors on the right and two on the left. Between the two on the right there was a reception desk and on the left there were two empty elevator shafts. The sliding doors were either open or had been removed to reinforce the walls of the entrance with them.

They led me to a separate fire door next to the shafts, which, according to the sign, had to lead into a stairwell. There were more signs, too. Something about hemo, lab, pure, impure, arrows pointing in different directions, but everything faded in front of my eyes.

They dragged me upstairs. I had trouble with my steps.
